What happens in a mock interview?

You answer the questions an employer would ask, out loud, and get feedback before the real interview. Here you choose your job, record an answer of up to 90 seconds or type it, and see what the interviewer listens for, what you said, and how clearly you said it.

What you said

The points the interviewer listens for, with the words you used to make each one.

STAR, for “tell me about a time”

Your Situation, Task, Action and Result, each clear, weak or missing.

How you said it

Your pace, long pauses, filler words, clear words and length, with a figure for each.

Better ways to say it

Up to 3 phrases a listener would notice, and what to say instead.

How does the mock interview work?

What happens to my answer?

Your recording is deleted

We delete the audio once your answer is marked.

Only you see your answer

Your transcript and feedback are not shared with anyone, and there is no public page for them.

Common questions

Is the mock interview free?

Yes. Your first 2 answers need no sign-up. After that, enter your email to get 10 answers a day, free. Your email opens a free Leap Exam account.

What does the feedback check?

Two things. What you said: whether you answered the question and made the points the interviewer listens for, and for “tell me about a time” questions, each part of STAR. How you said it: your pace, long pauses, filler words, clear words and the length of your answer.

Does it mark my accent?

No. It checks whether your words were clear enough to follow, not where you are from. Many clear speakers have an accent, and that is fine in a job interview.

What happens to my recording?

We delete your recording once your answer is marked. Your transcript and feedback are visible only to you. Without an account they are deleted after 30 days, and you can delete them yourself at any time with Delete my answer.

Can I type my answer instead of speaking?

Yes. If you have no microphone, or you are somewhere quiet, type your answer. You get feedback on what you said, but not on how you said it, because that needs a recording.

Which jobs can I practise for?

Common questions that most interviews ask, behavioural questions, “Tell me about yourself”, and 10 jobs: aged care, disability support, childcare, retail, hospitality, customer service, warehouse, cleaning, nursing and graduate programs.

Is this a real job interview?

No. It is practice. Our engine writes the feedback, and it is not a hiring decision. Use it to get ready for the real interview.

Is there a free alternative to Google Interview Warmup?

Yes. Google no longer offers Interview Warmup. This mock interview works in a similar way: you answer a real question out loud and see feedback on what you said and how you said it, with questions for jobs in Australia.

Does it work on my phone?
