Common questions

What is the Victorian Points Test?

It's the score Victoria uses to rank people who apply for 190 and 491 nomination. It gives points for seven things: age, English, work experience, education, occupation skill level, your partner's skills and your pay in Victoria. The highest total is 950.

Is there a pass mark for the Victorian Points Test?

No. In each invitation round, Victoria invites the people with the highest totals. Victoria doesn't tell you how your total compares with other people's.

How many VPT points is Superior English?

200. Proficient English is 100 and Competent English is 0. For a PTE test taken from 7 August 2025, Superior English needs listening 69, reading 70, writing 85, speaking 88. In IELTS, it's 8 in each skill.

Is the VPT the same as SkillSelect points?

No. You still need at least 65 points on the Home Affairs points test to apply for the visa. Victoria then ranks the people who apply to it by their VPT total.

How much does Victorian nomination cost?

For 2026-27, a Registration of Interest costs $60 and a nomination application costs $180, before GST. You pay GST if you're in Australia when you pay. You pay the nomination fee only if Victoria invites you to apply.

Does pay from outside Victoria count?

No. The points are for pay from your current skilled job in Victoria, and they start at $80,000 a year.
