Is there an overall score for the 482?

Not for a test taken from 13 September 2025: you need the minimum in each skill only. Older tests also needed an overall score, PTE 36 or IELTS 5.

Why 13 September 2025?

The 482 table changed on 13 September 2025, while most other Home Affairs tables changed on 7 August 2025. A test from before 13 September 2025 is checked against the older 482 table.

Who is exempt?

You don't need a test if you hold a passport from Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, the UK or the US, or studied full time in English for at least 5 years. Some people who work at a foreign mission, who hold an Australian licence that asked for the same English or better, or who work for an overseas business and earn at least AUD96,400 are exempt too.

Can I retake one skill?

For a test taken from 13 September 2025, Home Affairs may accept a single-skill retake. For an older test, all scores must come from one sitting.

How old can my test be?

For the 482 visa, your test must be from the 3 years before you apply.
