How is PTE listening scored?

Twelve question types count towards listening, four of them in the speaking and writing part. Summarize Group Discussion counts most, at about 20 per cent, then Repeat Sentence at about 17 per cent. Some of them count for a second skill too, such as Write from Dictation for writing.

How can I improve my PTE listening score?

Take short notes with key words, names and numbers. Read each question before the recording starts. Type every word you remember in Write from Dictation. Practise speaking too, because Repeat Sentence, Re-tell Lecture, Answer Short Question and Summarize Group Discussion also count towards listening.

Can you replay the audio in PTE listening?

No. Every recording plays once. You can take notes on the erasable noteboard while you listen.

Is there negative marking in PTE listening?

Yes, in Multiple Choice, Multiple Answers and in Highlight Incorrect Words. Each right answer earns a mark and each wrong one takes one away, down to zero for that question.

How long is the PTE listening part?

31 to 39 minutes. Summarize Spoken Text comes first, and Write from Dictation comes last.

Can I practise PTE listening for free?

Yes. Most listening question types have free questions, and they're marked free every time.
